Emotional sobriety is the gold-standard for life and living…

Recently my newest book was released. Progressive Recovery through the Twelve Steps: Emotionally Sober for Life turns out to be a capstone to my life, not just as a recovering alcoholic, but as a guy who has been called to the Spirit for the whole of my life. In truth, I was surprised to discover that the book represents that calling, albeit through the lens of recovery and the twelve steps. I was also surprised by the depth of my feelings about this work and its meaning to me. The foreshadowing for that came in a blog last fall, which related “If it’s your life’s work, it will take your life.

Emotional sobriety is a gold standard for life and living.

The point is not simply emotional balance throughout our lives, but likewise to maintain a vantage point that allows us be fully available to life in any given moment.

All proceeds from the sale of the book go towards creating free recovery-based content for ProgressiveRecovery.org

A Fictional Story of Progressive Recovery: The Saga of Grace Series

Over the course of several years, a fictional story has taken shape that mirrors the journey of recovery through the Twelve Steps, unfolding progressively over the long term. The protagonist, Kevin Pitcairn, is a recovering alcoholic and addict with a harrowing backstory of trauma and violence—one drawn from the real-life experiences of people in recovery, people much like you and me.

The three books (A Killer’s Grace, The Dark Side of Grace, and The Reckoning of Grace) trace his agnostic journey through sobriety, healing from trauma, discovering deep relationships, finding post-traumatic growth, and ultimately reaching spiritual transcendence—echoing the themes of the Big Book’s Appendix: The Spiritual Experience.

The series has been described as an excellent and creative approach to recovery storytelling. And indeed, the importance of such stories lies at the heart of recovery. Throughout the novels, we are reminded again and again of the real-world power of meetings, sponsorship, and the language of the heart.
